Gillian Christy, the renowned sculptor from Providence who I interned with in 2010, came to the reception on Saturday, and wrote about it on her blog as well! I was so flattered that she and her husband made the trip. You can read her blog entree and see a picture of us here. I'm also in several other posts from the summer of 2010, as we were constructing "Pathways," the 9-foot tall stainless steel sculpture that represents the past, present, future and culture of Fitchburg, MA. You can see "Pathways" on Water St., in front of Market Basket in Fitchburg. Gillian did a great job designing the piece, which uses recycled bricks from local mills, and shows the Nashua River, iconic railroad tracks, paper to represent the mill industry, and different wheels from the city's history. For more about Gillian and to read about "Pathways" from her point of view, visit her website, www.gillianchristy.com (added bonus: I'm standing in the candid picture of "Pathways," wearing a pink coat).
My high school art teachers have also been spreading the word, and I have put up posters around campus. I hope that lots more art students and Westminster residents will go see the show so that it can serve it's purpose to the Cultural Council. So gather up your friends and take them to Townsend to get cultured (and don't forget to sign the guest book)!
